The Independence Area Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting nominees for its annual awards program. The nominations and awards are open to Chamber member businesses, all persons, and organizations in Buchanan County. Winners will be announced at the Annual Awards Celebration on March 2, 2024, at Heartland Acres Event Center.

Nominations can be submitted online or you can pick up a paper form from the Chamber Office anytime on Monday – Friday from 9am – 1pm.

Nominations will be accepted online until Sunday, January 28th at 11:45pm or in the office until Monday, January 29th until 1pm.

Business of the Year

A (chamber member) business whose owners and/or employees have demonstrated outstanding initiative in the community/county through volunteer efforts, projects, and/or donations above and beyond normal business operations.

Volunteer of the Year

Any individual whose volunteer actions and/or community support has been extraordinary in nature and by those actions have greatly benefited the community.

Educator of the Year

Any individual in a school district (Independence, Jesup, or East Buchanan) who goes above and beyond their job expectations and who has a positive impact on others. The Educator of the Year also demonstrates the following:

• Respect for and rapport with students, staff, and colleagues.
• A continuing commitment to personal and professional growth.
• Expertise in their field and whose work has contributed to individuals of all backgrounds and abilities.
• The ability to motivate and inspire.
• Collaboration with colleagues, students, and families to create a school climate of respect and success.
• Leadership and innovation in and outside of the classroom walls.
