Falcon Civic Center
Home of the Parks & Recreation Department, the Falcon Civic Center is ideal for both children and adults to exert some energy. Complete with a sauna, racquetball and basketball courts, weight lifting and exercising room, locker and showers, it offers all the amenities needed to stay into shape. Get into shape with us!

Therapy & Wellness Connection
Attached to the Buchanan County Health Center, the Therapy and Wellness Connection is a medical fitness facility with a walking track, exercise and weight equipment and an indoor lap pool and hot tub. The TWC offers a wide range of programs that empower people of all fitness levels the opportunity to discover their optimal health potential at their own pace. Live healthy with us!

Independence Public Library
Independence boasts a new, state of the art public library that serves as a community gathering place and a local hub for education, culture, and recreation. A diverse range of opportunities for all age groups are provided by the programs, services, and resources available. Explore and be inspired as you take advantage of computers and WiFi, author and book programs, art exhibits, movies, online databases and books…you can also listen to one or read from your eBook reader with digital downloads. Parks
Independence is home to some of the nicest parks in all of Northeast Iowa. Highlighted by Riverwalk Parks, there are 17 total parks located within the city limits 11 of the parks have picnic shelters and 7 have playground equipment, basketball and tennis courts. Be a kid with us!

Gardens
Independence has many beautiful gardens, including the Cedar Valley Hospice Memorial Garden. Designed by Gary Whittenbaugh, Master Gardener, and the Independence Master Gardeners, under the direction on Diane Dave, the Cedar Valley Hospice Memorial Garden is a vibrant garden of flowers, trees, and other beautiful plants that offer peace and tranquility to all welcomed visitors. Wapsipinicon River
During the summer months the Wapsipinicon River is busy with folks enjoying the beautiful scenery as they cruise on their pontoons or hit the lake with their jet skies and ski boats. For those of you that enjoy the slower pace, down river is ideal for canoeing and tubing. Get your feet wet with us!

Golfing
There are 2 beautiful golf courses in Independence. Next to the Wapsipinicon River is River Ridge Golf Course. River Ridge is a challenging 9 Hole Course known for its narrow fairways. Three Elms Golf Course is the other public course in Indee. Three Elms is a 9 Hole Course that has large rolling greens. Tee off with us!

Swimming Pool
Complete with a water slide, two diving boards, a kid’s pool and plenty of space to layout and catch some rays, the Independence Public Pool is a great place to spend the afternoon. Take a dip with us!

Horseshoe
Grab your shoes, both sets, and visit either the Fairgrounds or Teacher’s Park for some shoe tossing.

Skateboarding
With a designated park, skateboarders in Independence have their very own concrete play land to perfect their Ollie, Kick flip or Grind. Wear your safety equipment with us!

Sand Volleyball 
Bump. Set. Spike with the very best. There are three professional sand volleyball courts located at Teacher’s Park. During the Independence Day Celebration, the Budweiser Sand Shootout takes place as the King of Beers looks to crown a King of the Sand. Feel the sand between your toes with us!

Hunting & Fishing
You can’t think of recreation without hunting and fishing involved. Visitors from across the Midwest visit the Independence area to hunt and fish on and along the Wapsipinicon River. Look good in camo with us!
Looking for a great place to take young kids fishing? Try the pond at The Pines. Recently stocked with plans to continue stocking in the future, it is accessible all the way around and they catch a lot of fish!
Baseball/Softball Complex 
The Independence Baseball/Softball complex has been home to games and tournaments for over 20 years. Complete with 4 fields, all ages and skill levels have enjoyed playing at the complex. Hit one out of the park with us!

RV Park & Campground
Whether for the weekend or entire season, the Independence Campground is always bustling with activity. Fishing from the banks or sitting around the bonfire, campers enjoy the surroundings and the amenities. Playground, picnic shelter, showers, cable & Internet are just a few of the luxuries for those that don’t want to rough it in a tent.

RiversEDGE Sport & Fitness
This facility includes a 3,000 sq ft fitness room, 5 batting cages with various machines, 1 golf simulator, 2 golf cages, 1 hunting simulator, 310 ft walking track, shuffleboard, bags court. Daily Admission: Adult- $1.00, Student- $1.00, Walking- $1.00. Hours: September 2nd-July 15th: Monday-Thursday 3pm-9pm, Friday 3pm-8pm, Saturday 8 am-4pm, Sunday 12pm-6pm.
